A factor that hasn’t yet been taken into account regarding the events of the past year is how many films are being backed up for release.
With the only new films released last year being Tenet and Sonic the Hedgehog, there is a backlog of a year’s worth of films and then at least half that again from this year.
Experts believe that that could equate to a new superhero film coming out every single day.
“Think about it, on a normal year, you get about nine different Spiderman films from four different studios,” explained Stewart James, an expert in something or other.
“Those films haven’t gone anywhere; they’re just sat somewhere waiting for a release. Spiderman films, Superman films, Thor films – superheroes you’ve never heard of that some studio has taken a punt on because people will watch anything with a bloke in a cape scowling.”
Mr James believes there could be thousands of superhero films backed up for release.
“I think one a day is a fair estimate, maybe one every two days. People need to be prepared for that. If you want to be up-to-date about whatever saga you’re invested in, then you’re going to need to take a lot of time off work and pretty much move into the cinema or you’re going miss out on why Basilisk Man has to beat up the moon in an alternative reality to save the Princess of Cardiff or whatever.”
He called on cinemas to start making preparations immediately.
“Start stockpiling popcorn, fizzy pop, overpriced pic ‘n’ mix. Get some new air-conditioning to remove the farts produced by eating all that rubbish.
“It’s going to get busy. Very busy.”
There have been some saying that this situation is not that unusual and that recent years had regularly featured a new superhero film released every day.
They didn’t. It just felt like that.

‘Porky’s in concert’ – a screening of Porky’s with live orchestra announced
The popularity of movie screenings accompanied by a live orchestra has grown exponentially over the past two decades, and now finally comes the film-with-orchestra show that millions have been hoping for – Porky’s
Made in 1981, Porky’s was a popular comedy about lots and lots of young women taking their tops off. It has always been seen as a challenging choice for a film-with-orchestra screening as the soundtrack is largely made up of terrible middle-of-the-road rock songs.
“Yeah, the rock music thing was a problem,” said Hans Williams, who organises the concerts.
“I mean, we could have had the bands play the terrible middle-of-the-road rock music live, but that would have been a load of terrible rock music with slightly inferior sound quality to the film, so we abandoned that idea. It was a tricky problem.”
Ultimately Hans came up with an innovative solution.
“Yeah, well just get the orchestra to play some of the popular classical pieces – Bach, Mozart – that sort of thing, and turn the sound down when the rock music starts playing.”
“Hell, it’s not like people watch Porky’s for anything other than the breasts anyway.”
If successful, it is thought that ‘Revenge of the Nerds in concert’ will follow shortly afterwards.
