Further details have emerged of the hotly-anticipated new Disney+ Obi-wan series, including the time-period and location.
In a first for the Star Wars franchise, the series will be set on Earth – specifically in 1986 New York.
“I think that everyone was looking to do something fresh and new with Obi-wan,” explained star Ewan McGregor.
“And that late eighties period in New York is such a vibrant time, what with the emergence of hip hop and graffiti artists and breakdancing.
“We all really wanted to see Obi-wan in that environment and, more importantly, how would that period in time respond to having a powerful Jedi in New York?
“You’d certainly imagine that first De La Soul album would be a very different prospect.”
Some fans weren’t convinced.
“I’m not convinced,” tweeted @BensBigSabre, a fan.
“I hope this new Disney+ Obi-wan series isn’t just some predictable, cheesy eighties crap that embarrasses the character.”
Luckily, the plot outline of the show would seem to put fans’ fears to rest.
Obi-wan is a struggling MC in a crew called ‘The Force.’ He is torn between his love for hip hop and his duty to the Jedi order.
A new crew called ‘The Dark Side’ emerges with a sexy female rapper. Obi-wan is immediately drawn to her and the two begin a relationship in secret.
The season will play out at a series of rap battles across the five boroughs where the young Obi-wan finds his MC-ing abilities increasingly tested.
The season will culminate at a block party that see’s Obi-wan’s relationship revealed and the two crews have an epic breakdancing battle.
McGregor was clearly excited by the new direction.
“Not only is it the first time that the franchise is set in what is recognisably our world, but it is also the first time fans will get to hear Ben Kenobi rapping,” he said.
“Unless, of course, they watched all the deleted scenes on the original Attack of the Clones DVD.”
