SPOILER ALERT: Internet sleuth figures out year in which Wonder Woman 1984 is set

With several weeks to go until release, an internet sleuth has been digging into trailers and promotional material and claims to have definitively pinned down the year in which Wonder Woman 1984 is set.

“When I first saw some stills from the film, I thought – ‘That’s not a contemporary film,’” said film buff Stewart James.

“So, I decided to find out exactly when it was set.”

Mr James set to work analysing the various trailers and it was Chris Pine’s costume that gave him the first clue he needed.

“It was a puffy jacket, and there was only one time that people wore jackets that were puffy – the 1980s.

“From there it was the simple task of combing through the online records of all puffy jacket manufacturers to find when it was created – 1983. So, the film must be set after that year. But part of my research revealed that puffy jackets begin to lose their puffiness after a few years, so that meant Wonder Woman 1984 had to be set no more than 3 years after 1983.”

It was then a brief clip of a behind the scenes documentary on YouTube that gave him his conclusive piece of evidence.

“There was someone cleaning away some old props, and you could see that it was a calendar displaying 1984. But after examining the calendar in a freezeframe, it looks quite old and battered, so I suspect the props were from an old apartment that had been empty for about a year.

“To conclude then, after examining all the evidence, it seems clear that Wonder Woman 1984 is set in 1985.”
