New 12-foot-wide SNES Maxi due for Autumn

In a surprise move, Nintendo has announced the SNES Maxi, a 12-foot-wide, 8-foot-tall recreation of their iconic Super Nintendo Entertainment System from the 90s.

The console will come pre-loaded with a whopping 30 games and two 5-foot recreations of the original Super NES controllers.

“The mini console market was ruined by the PlayStation Mini a few years ago. I mean, last I heard they were giving those away in boxes of cereal,” explained Nintendo representative Stewart James.

“So, we cancelled plans for our Nintendo 64 mini, our Gamecube mini, our SNES Mini Mini and, personally, I thought the retro-console market was done with.

“But, here at Nintendo, we innovate, so when someone suggested that we go big. We ran with that idea and produced the SNES Maxi.”

The SNES Maxi has been designed for fans of the original SNES who didn’t buy the SNES Mini or have any of the games on the various modern Nintendo consoles that sold them. It is a perfect recreation of the original console except, like the SNES mini, it doesn’t have a working cartridge slot.

“No, the costs of producing 3-foot-wide cartridges would have been prohibitively high and game stores simply wouldn’t have the space to stock them, but because of the size of the new console, we were able to fit a whole 10 more games inside than we could on the SNES mini, so why would you need any cartridges?” laughed Stewart.

The news was greeted with enthusiasm from fans

“So, to be able to play all those great games in the shadow of a console that blocks out the sun is a real dream come true.”

If successful, it is understood that Nintendo will consider revitalising the mini console market with the SNES Maxi Mini, a mini version of the new console for fans and collectors.”
