Academy considering VAR for Oscars

It is being reported that the Academy is considering VAR for this year’s Oscars.

VAR is the ‘video assistant referee’ that is being used by a number of football associations to aid in the accuracy of referee’s decision making.

“It’s something we’re looking into,” confirmed Academy representative Stewart James.

“I mean, we just want to make sure all our decisions are correct and sometimes, you know, Academy members are humans and make the wrong call.

“Introducing VAR could allow members to take another look at controversial decisions and maybe rethink them.”

Mr James denied that the news had anything to do with Nomadland’s recent Oscars triumph.

“This has nothing to do with a particular incident,” he claimed, reasonably convincingly.

“For all we know, VAR night agree that Nomadland was a better film than The Father, or Judas and the Black Messiah, or Sound of Metal. Probably not The Trial of the Chicago 7 though.

“But I think that everyone can agree that it would be quite nice to go back and check sometimes. We just want to make the right call.”

However, there are those who are strongly opposed to the introduction of VAR as arguing about decisions and awards after the ceremony is part of the fun.

“Making it perfect would lose the charm of the Oscars,” claimed Frances McDormand and Chloe Zhao.

“Unless they’re not going to look back at previous awards, in which case, fine.”
