A week after the Bafta nominations were announced, there is growing demand to find a place in the BAFTA Rising Star nominees for Gerard Butler.
“Gerard has been making big, hit films for over fifteen years now,” said Stewart James, Professor of Gerard Butler at Oxford University.
“He’s got a solid fanbase and his name can open a film. People will go and see it just because he’s in it. “With the greatest respect to Lashana Lynch, she’s not in the same league. Maybe she will be in a few years, I mean she’s terrific, but she’s not there now. None of them are. Gerard is. Right now. So, I don’t understand why he’s not got a place on this list.”
The Copshop star was reticent to speak about the BAFTA snub.
“Look, those guys are all terrific. They all really deserve their place on that list. They’re going to be big stars,” said the Gerard, generously.
“I certainly wouldn’t want any of them to lost their place on the list because of me but, you know, I’ve been working solidly for fifteen years and they’ve never put me on the Rising Star list. I don’t know what more I have to do. It’s pretty dispiriting.”
With the strength of feeling growing, the Bafta committee have promised to look into the case, and have organised a triple bill of the Olympus Has Fallen and it’s two sequels for its members.
Professor James was pleased at the development.
“Well, if that doesn’t do it, nothing will. Although, maybe just show the first two?”
