Kenneth Branagh’s new film Death on the Nile features legendary investigator Hercule Poirot investigating a murder that takes place on Chic guitarist Nile Rodgers.

After a hard day in the studio writing several hit singles, Nile Rodgers goes to bed and falls into a deep sleep. When he wakes up, he discovers a dead body on top of him. With no clues as to who committed the murder, police are stumped and only Poirot can solve the mystery.

“I love the character of Hercule Poirot,” explained Branagh.

“I really wanted to do another film about him, but it was frustrating that all the original Agatha Christie novels were so old fashioned. I wanted to take him into a contemporary setting, and what is more contemporary than having him investigate a murder that takes place on a top pop star.”

The Chic legend was happy to get involved.

“I’ve been a big fan of Ken since Henry V,” he said.

“But, I’ve got to be honest, when he said he wanted to work with me, I assumed he wanted to make a pop hit. I’d have done it too, Ken’s a charismatic guy. I could have taken him to number one. Easy.

“But then he said he wanted to stage an entire murder mystery on my body? Well, okay. Why the hell not.”

Branagh has further plans to bring Poirot into contemporary times with his follow-up to Death on the Nile, Cat Among the Pigeons, which features singer Cat Power found murdered in a pigeon coop.
