Hugh Jackman has announced plans to release a collection of his favourite songs from and inspired by the X-Men films.

Although best known to most audience as cigar-chewing tough guy Wolverine, Jackman is an accomplished singer and dancer and whilst he has toured his Greatest Showman and Les Miserables songs, he has never revisited his X-Men songs until now.

“They’re re-recordings and reworkings,” explained Jackman.

“We’ve got Bootsy Collins and Thundercat in for I’m a Funky X-Man, and that sounds awesome now. You Can’t Cage Me in a Cage Fight was a plaintive ballad before, but now we’ve brought in the Philharmonic Orchestra and it’s just huge now. A really big, epic song.

“I’m particularly pleased with how Professor X Blues has turned out. We brought in Kendrick Lamarr for it and so it swings from this down-and-dirty blues song to this hardcore rap. It’s great.”

Songs that have been inspired by the films, rather than directly lifted from the films, include Wolverine’s the Best and Everyone’s a Dick except Wolverine.

“Yeah, X-Men was part of my life for a long time, so I’d written some songs that were inspired by my time on the films, and those two in particular capture what I really feel about the series.”

That there were songs in the X-Men films has come to a surprise to many, Stewart James, a X-Men X-pert explains why.

“Each X-Men film has two or three songs in. That’s a fact. It was part of Jackman’s deal that he would sing in every film. What is interesting is that the songs were so ill-judged and stupid that most people forget them immediately.”

Hugh Jackman’s X-Men SpeXtacular will be released in time for the holidays and is expected to sell two or even three copies.
