Beautiful Jessie Christmas is a high-flying executive at a smart Manhattan advertising agency. Despite being the best at advertising in the whole office, she’s been passed over for promotion once again. To make matters worse, her long lost Auntie Christmas as died, and Jessie is going to have to deal with her affairs, back in the little town of Christmas, where she grew up.

At the town station, she runs into hunky Blaze Davenport – her high-school sweetheart. They split up after Jessie left Christmas to attend a fancy advertising college in New York. Blaze, despite graduating first at Harvard and Oxford Universities, has returned to Christmas to run the town sewage processing plant.

Blaze drives her to her aunt’s house where she is surprised to discover the house has been decorated for Christmas, the fire is blazing and there are presents under the newly trimmed tree.

She and Blaze assume that the lawyers must be responsible. A moth flutters round their heads and lands on a tree bauble. They both giggle.

The next evening Blaze shows her round town. When they arrive at the annual Christmas parade, they find the Mayor struggling to get the lights working. Blaze offers to use his muscles to help. While Jessie is watching Blaze and his muscles, she notices a moth. It flutters onto the electricity supply, and the lights start working again.

Later, when Jessie is back at her aunt’s house enjoying a mug of hot chocolate, a moth lands on her hand. She stares at it. The moth stares back.

“Can you understand me?”

The moth nods.

“Are you…a Christmas moth?”

The moth nods again.

The next morning, she receives a call from her boss at the advertising company. They’ve got a major new contract, and he needs Jessie to come back and work over Christmas for a new campaign.

Blaze begs her not to go back, saying that he still loves her, and wants her to join him at the sewage plant but she explains that her career comes first.

As she is walking back to the station, she notices the moth again, it appears to be trying to get her attention. She follows it and it flies into a tumbledown, empty old shop. She marches to the town hall, and learns that the shop was her aunt’s old Christmas cookie store.

Back in New York, it’s Christmas Eve and she heads into work where her boss starts barking orders, but Jessie stands up for herself, gives him an impassioned speech about Christmas values and hands in her notice.

She returns to Christmas where she opens up a little traditional advertising shop in her aunt’s old cookie shop. All thanks to the Christmas moth.
