‘Wonka’ to show how the young Willy got a taste for killing

New prequel Wonka will focus on young Willy Wonka and how he developed the taste for killing that would see him become a terrifying child-killer who runs a chocolate factory.

“Everyone knows the story of how Willy Wonka lures a group of children to his chocolate factory and then murders all the ones that annoy him,” explained directory Paul King.

“We wanted to explore how he became such a monster.”

The new film will show Willy as a young man who travels around the world to find the greatest recipes for chocolate and the most irritating tunes. On one such adventure, he finds himself travelling up an exotic river on a paddle steamer with a noisy little boy in the room next door.

One evening, when the child’s parents have gone to dinner, Willy visits the boy and offers him some chocolate, hoping to bribe him to keep quiet. Unbeknownst to Willy, the boy is allergic and begins to fall ill. Fascinated, rather than call for help, Willy watches the boy die.

“From that moment, Willy is hooked on the dark pleasure of murder,” said the Paddington director.

“We then show how he goes on a killing spree, pursued by a dogged detective who’s due to retire, and ends up building a chocolate factory of torture and murder.”

Some fans are unhappy with the film.

“I think it’s better not knowing that much about Willy,” said Stewart James, who runs a Wonka website.

“It’s like Darth Vader, or the Joker. These evil, malevolent characters are scarier when your own imagination fills in their background.”

If successful, the film is expected to kickstart a Wonka franchise of films each featuring more and moreoutlandish kills until around the ninth, when they run out of ideas and make Wonka IX: Willy vs Freddy, which effectively kills the series.
