Kelly Grace, determined not to be caught out this year, is factoring the unexpected inheritance of her aunt’s magical Christmas cookie shop into her holiday plans.
“It was just too, too hectic last year,” explained Ms Grace, a pretty children’s author who’s arguably focused too much on her successful career at the expense of her emotional life.
“It was a whirlwind of work and social events and then, bang, right in the middle of it all, my grandmother died, and I had to deal with her magical Christmas pony farm, and fend off the attentions of my high school sweetheart, and it was too much.”
This year, Ms Grace is prepared.
“Well, I hope I’m wrong, but my beloved Auntie Carol is getting very old. So, I’ve kept that week from the 19th free. That way, I’ve got time to go back to the small town I grew up with and find a new owner for Carol’s magical Christmas cookie shop who’ll run the shop with the true spirt of Christmas.
“I’ve got a spreadsheet planned out with everything I’ll need to do, and I’ll even be able to fit in a couple of dates at the Christmas Fayre with a healthy-looking man in a lumberjack shirt that I vaguely remember from high school.
“If it all goes to plan, I should be back home in time for Jenny’s party on the day before Christmas Eve.”
One thing that Ms Grace may not have time for is learning the true spirit of Christmas.
“Oh hell no. Far too busy. I’ll do that next year.”

I’ve seen older and frankly better versions of this story on r/satire and noticing that leads me to wonder whether how many stories on here are simply amended versions of other sites’s material. Which is a shame bcs I really like the Four Weddings story that brought me here.
