Adam Driver has revealed that there were plans in place at Disney+ for a sitcom that would have featured Kylo Ren and Rey Skywalker running competing antique shops next to each other in an English high street.
“Oh man, that was a shame,” he said sadly.
“I think it would have been great way to continue their story. Throughout the trilogy we’d built up this intense rivalry between them along with this underlying, simmering attraction. Now, imagine that dynamic, but with the pair of them running neighbouring, competing antique shops in a well-to-do English dormitory town. Hilarious stuff.”
The sitcom was briefly in development at Disney. It would have seen Kylo Ren retiring from the dark side of the Force, disillusioned with the First Order. He uses his First Order pension to open a little antique shop. However, unbeknownst to him, Rey has retired from the Resistance, and has opened her own antique shop. Both sit next to each other in a sleepy high street in a quiet English town.
“I tell you, the sparks would have flown. Kylo Ren would have used his Dark Force powers to massacre all of Rey’s customers. But then Rey would get her revenge by boring all of Kylo’s customers to tears by being all virtuous and nice. You’d have got guest appearances with R2-D2 being all clumsy and knocking over expensive antiques and Emperor Palpatine using the dark side to manipulate Kylo into selling him a nice vase for less than it’s worth.
“I’m telling you, man. That would have hit big. Guaranteed.”
Sadly, however, the project was abandoned in favour of Andor. Although that has become one of the most well-regarded properties in the Star Wars universe, fans will most likely agree that a sitcom with Rey and Kylo Ren running competing antique shops would have been preferable.
