Players are discovering that the latest release of popular hero shooter Apex Legends has a peculiar glitch which, when triggered, allows players to live in a socialist utopia.
“At first, I didn’t really know what had happened,” said Stewart James, an avid Apex Legends fan.
“I was exploring that new Broken Moon map, which is great, by the way, and I was using a zipline across this chasm. Suddenly, the zipline just disappeared, I plunged down into the chasm and then I looked round and my house had disappeared, I was wearing overalls, and living in a socialist utopia.
“Everyone was equal, we worked for the common good, the workers held the means of production and there was a series of local rolling administrations by appointed by lottery that prevented corruption from within a long-term government.
“I don’t know if this was something the developers meant to do, or if it was a bug or something, but it was great, really surprising. That’s one of the things I’ve always liked about Apex, you never know what’s going to happen next.”
Kelly Grace is a developer who worked on the latest patch.
“Yeah, the socialist utopia thing? Yeah, that was a fun little Easter egg we just dropped in. Wasn’t easy, developing in alternative socialist reality for players but it was worth it. I think people are really getting a kick out of living in a socialist utopia.”
Rumour has it that there is also a secret area on the World’s Edge Map which, when entered, transforms the player into ex-British Home Secretary Sajid Javid, but this has yet to be confirmed.
