Duane ‘The Rock’ Johnson is set to star in a new adaptation of King Lear, set entirely in the world of the WWE.
Based upon the original by William Shakespeare, though featuring none of the original words, King Lear! Yeah!, is a tragedy depicting the gradual descent into madness of a wrestler called The Rock (played by The Rock).
After he disposes of his Rockdom, the World Wrestling Federation, giving bequests to two of his three daughters, The Undertaker and Hulk Hogan (played by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen respectively), based upon them beating his ass in the ring and bringing tragic consequences for all; that is, the renaming of the franchise to World Wrestling Entertainment.
Producer The Rock said, “This is a great, great story. It’s even better than Rampage. Probably.
“At heart, I’ve always thought of myself as a Shakespearean actor. And these muscles prove that beyond a doubt!
“Woohoo, The Rock!” he added, superfluously.
Screenwriter JJ Bigelow has admitted not being particular familiar with the history of the WWE, and hopes this will be made up for with his or her similar utter disregard for the original play.
