Further details have emerged regarding The Meg – the Jason Statham giant shark movie – and they’ve taken everyone by surprise.
It seems that rather than the film about Jason Statham trying to beat up a giant shark that everyone had been expecting, the film is a touching tale of friendship.
“Yes, I rather think that the marketing was a little off with this one,” said Nick Fletcher, head of giant shark movies at Warner Brothers.
“Whilst there are images that suggest Jason is about to punch a massive shark right in the face, what actually is happening is that he’s just going to give him a nice hug.”
The film takes place in one of the deepest ocean trenches on the planet and after an earth tremor traps Jason Statham and the biggest shark on the planet two miles beneath sea-level, the unlikely pair have to work together to escape to safety, forming an unlikely bond in the process.
“Yeah, it’s definitely a movie about the relationship between a man and a giant shark,” confirmed Statham as he pulled down a tree with his bare hands.
“Although there is clearly a mutual attraction between the pair, it’s not a romantic relationship. It’s a friendship, but a profound one.”
The Meg will be released later this year, and could well turn out to be the heart-warming sleeper hit of the summer.
