Tatiana Maslany has revealed that she prepared for her new role of She-Hulk by actually living with a family of Hulks for six months.
“I think that, like most people, I had this kind of one-dimensional view of Hulks – you know, they were big, green, they smashed things, and that was it,” said the Orphan Black star.
“I wanted to know if there was more to Hulks than that, so I found this great family of Hulks who live in the suburbs of Toronto and they just took me into their lives for six months.”
The family consisted of Jeff Hulk, a local dentist, his wife Mary Hulk, who ran a florist, and their two children Kevin and Sally.
“Sally was hilarious, she was really, really good at math, and, you know, she was only six but she’s doing all these equations that were beyond me, and every now and again, she’d forget how to do a formula and knock the wall down.
“Kevin, I think he had a crush on me when I first got there, but after a while I became like a big sister, and I’d give him advice on dates which was sometimes heart-breaking because some people didn’t want their daughters going out with a Hulk.
“But Mary and Jeff were wonderful, they took me into their home and lives and made me realise there was so much more to Hulks than smashing things. Everything you see in She-Hulk comes from those two. I just love them.”
Tatiana is another in a long list of Marvel stars who have really immersed themselves in their roles. From Chris Hemsworth becoming a God to prepare for Thor, Chris Pratt going to live in space for Guardians of the Galaxy, and Robert Downey Jnr spending six months working in a dry-cleaners to prepare for Iron Man.
