In a surprise development, the latest Love Islander was last night revealed to be former Tory Party leader Michael Howard.

Michael Howard, or Baron Howard of Lympne as he is formally known, was introduced yesterday evening as the other islanders were an hour into a heated discussion about Dostoevsky’s work.

Arriving on to the island wearing nothing but a pair of skimpy speedo swimming trunks, it was clear that the former Home Secretary and spent considerable time in both the tanning salon and gym in preparation.

His arrival was greeted with a stunned silence before Leanne nervously stammered – “Are you Michael Howard? *The* Michael Howard?”

“Actually, it’s Baron Howard of Lympne, but that’s fine,” he chuckled.

“Wow, that’s amazing,” exclaimed Connor.

“I’m a huge fan of your work, particularly the way you revitalised the Tory Party through the promotion of younger MPs to top jobs when you were leader.”

Shaughna was equally enamoured.

“Yeah, and you’ve got well lush eyes,” she giggled.

The gang then celebrated the arrival of Baron Howard with a delicious meal of Beef Wellington and seasonable vegetables, quickly put together by Sophie and Mike and a couple of bottles of Gevrey Chambertin 1994 from Leanne’s cellar.

Baron Howard seems to have immediately fit right in with the other Love Islanders and the surprise addition could be the most successful since 2016 when former Democratic Presidential nominee John Kerry was a surprise addition and went on, along with Olivia Buckland, to win.
