Studios continue to refuse to bow to widespread public pressure for reboot of The Island

Hollywood studios have remained steadfast in their increasingly ugly standoff with the movie-going public over the prospect of a reboot of The Island – the 2005 Ewen McGregor starring clone classic.

Coordinated protest marches in major cities around the globe over the weekend demanded a Hollywood studio look into the possibility of a reboot of The Island, possibly with Timothee Chalamet and Florence Pugh in the lead roles, with a view to turning the whole thing into a Star Wars-style franchise.

“All we are asking is that studios look into it,” explained Kelly Grace, organiser of the ‘No Man is an Island Reboot’ campaign.

“The Island was the best film since Road House and would have been an all-time classic if they had kept the twist that they were all clones secret.

“Now, we don’t want to have to turn to violence and, frankly, I condemn those of us who have already done so, but if studios continue to not make a reboot of The Island, I’m not sure that people won’t be forced into much more ugly behaviour.”

Studios remained steadfast, however.

“Hell no, we will not be pressured by an unruly mob into making a reboot of The Island. That’s not how film-making works,” said Stewart James, a studio head, seemingly ambivalent to how his words could enflame an already delicate situation.

“The Island was, at best, mediocre, with an ill-conceived final act and little sci-fi spectacle. Why would I want to reboot it when I could reboot Spiderman which, frankly, hasn’t had a new film in at least 20 minutes.”

However, with no side prepared to back down, the situation only looks set to escalate with alarming rumours of campaigners planning to illegally enter studios and shut down production on whatever superhero movies are currently being made until a reboot of The Island is scheduled.
