Patrick Stewart reveals disappointment at missing out on lead in Madonna biopic

Patrick Stewart who will not be starring in the new Madonna biopic

Star Trek legend Patrick Stewart has spoken of his disappointment at missing out on the lead role in the new Madonna biopic.

“Madonna was kind enough to contact me personally to let me know that she would not be offering me the part, which was very nice of her but did nothing to lessen the disappointment,” he said.

“It was a wonderful role and one which, I think, I could have brought a great deal to. I have all of Madonna’s albums and still know all the words to Like a Prayer, which I would often sing on the Next Gen set to entertain everyone.”

He had even begun to work on how to mitigate the physical differences between himself and Madonna.

“Well, firstly a wig. The right wig for the right era and that’s 50% of the way there. Some make-up, I actually have a very similar bone-structure to Ms Ciccone so it is possibly to achieve a quite uncanny likeness. Finally, I could tuck my bits and pieces between my thighs. Something I could never do until Daniel Day-Lewis showed me how. He really was quite a talent.”

“And, of course, we would have hired a body double for the period when she made that book of her naked with Vanilla Ice and a horse.”

The star maintained that he held no ill-will and wished the project well.

“Oh, goodness me, of course. It’s a terrific story and whilst I’m disappointed not to be involved, I wish them all well and hope that they ‘make it so.’”

The film will begin filming later this year and, as was previously announced, will star Ralph Fiennes as Madonna.
