Following Oscar Issac’s description of the way the character of Princess Leia is portrayed in the forthcoming Star Wars film as ‘beautiful,’ it has emerged that, in tribute to the late Carrie Fisher, Princess Leia’s face will appear in a moon that will remain onscreen at all times.
“It was important to everyone that we paid a respectful tribute to Carrie,” said producer Kathleen Kennedy.
“So, we figured the most obvious thing to do was put her face in the moon and have that moon onscreen through the whole picture.
“Even when they’re indoors.”
Mrs Kennedy shrugged off criticism that the effect could be akin to 90s classic Teletubbies.
“Who didn’t love the Teletubbies? The fact that this is a bit like the Teletubbies can only be a good thing.
“Listen, we got wildfires, far-right politics, terrorism and famine, is anyone seriously telling me that this world wouldn’t be a better place for having Carrie Fisher’s face in the moon looking down on all of us?
“Of course not, it’d be swell. We can’t do that, but we can do it in the picture.”
Fans were broadly supportive of the plan.
“Yes, it’s nice, you know? Carrie Fisher is a legend and this is a great tribute,” said fan @Chewbaccaface
“Just as long as she doesn’t fly, because PRINCESS LEIA CAN’T FLY.”
