A Sonic the Hedgehog sequel has been announced following the surprise success of the first film, and producers have confirmed that it will be considerably darker than the original.
“I was very happy with the first film; it was a great introduction to the character and setting” explained director Jeff Fowler.
“But I think that what fans really want is to explore the darker side of Sonic the Hedgehog, which is what we’re going to do, and then some.”
The sequel will begin with James Marsden’s Sheriff Tom violently beating a drug dealer in a run-down slum in Green Hills.
He then heads upstairs and pulls a disheveled, incoherent and clearly drug-addled Tails the Fox from a battered sofa before bundling him into the back of a car and returning him to Sonic’s house.
“Tails’ crippling heroin addiction will be at the heart of the film,” confirmed Fowler.
“We see just how low he sinks as he shanks Maddie in the leg in order to make off with the Wachowski’s savings they’d set aside to buy a nice Winnebago.”
Finally, Sonic, voiced by Ben Shwartz, snaps and the film ends in an orgy of brutal violence.
“The Hedgehog rampage is going to be an incredible action climax to the film,” chuckled the director
Arming himself with a shotgun and pistol, Sonic covers himself in camo paint and heads into the night to bring justice to those whose crimes have so ruined his best friend.
“I don’t want to give too much away, but when the sun rises, hundreds will have died, and the flames of the drug pushers’ neighbourhood can be seen across Green Hills.”
The Sonic the Hedgehog sequel has the tentative title of Sonic: Blood of the Hog is scheduled for a 2022 release.
