Screen Idle, the Andrei Tarkovsky of online topical humour sites, was forced to deny a crisis after failing to produce an mildly humorous article today for the first time in five months.
The seven or eight regular readers of the site were left bemused as the usual mildly diverting article about how there’s loads of superhero films was replaced by an article apologising for the lack of an article.
“I’ve got nothing,” said Neil Tollfree, Screen Idle’s proprietor who’s trying, damn it.
“I’ve done the Mary Poppins sequel, Dan did the Black Panther. I tore the arse out of Star Wars before Christmas. I’m just knackered for new ideas.
“Normally, I’d just recycle some old thing from last year, like that one about the Argos catalogue being adapted for cinema, everyone loves that. But I’ve reposted it about five times already. It’s getting embarrassing.”
Tollfree did admit he had a last resort to avert a topical movie humour crisis.
“Yeah, I’ll just go meta and write something about not having any good ideas.”
“It’s a bit self-absorbed and not really what people come here for but, sod it, it’ll tie us over till tomorrow.”
It is thought that the Onion would never stoop to that sort of thing.
“Oh shut up, you stupid editorial voice,” shouted Tollfree as he went off to have a big think.
