A new trailer has revealed that Pokemon: Detective Pikachu will be a hard-hitting crime drama.

Up until this latest film, Pikachu has been a yellow shouty bastard enjoyed by children as a result of their idiocy.

However, this new incarnation of Pikachu will be a hard-drinking, cynical detective who doesn’t play by the rules.

“Yeah, so we were originally looking to make the usual Pokemon story about cute monsters, brave kids and their balls,” said director Rob Letterman.

“The more I thought about the character of Pikachu though, the more I thought that he was the perfect creature to inhabit the character of a tough no-nonsense cop who will stop at nothing to get the job done.”

The trailer will come as a shock to Pikachu’s younger fans as the popular Pokemon is seen downing whisky, beating up an informant and having drunken sex with a prostitute up an alley.

“Yeah, it’s a tough watch, I don’t deny it,” continued Letterman.

“But it is important to reflect the harsh reality of a Pokemon fighting crime at street level in our modern cities.”

Pokemon: Detective Pikachu will be released in 2019, and fans can look forward to an exclusive tie-in with Burger King that will let them collect toys featuring the Detective flipping off the police chief, kerb-stomping a perp, and picking his cigarette out of his vomit after an all-night whisky binge.
