There was growing outrage in the film world as it became apparent that many so-called best-films-of-the-decade lists were not including 2017’s classic Clowntergeist.
Considered by right-thinking people to be one of the finest movies ever made about poltergeist clowns, it had been expected to feature alongside such modern classics as Leave No Trace, Moonlight, and Fast and Furious V.
“I think that seeing Get Out top many lists is to be expected and is fine,” said Kelly Grace, professor of clowntergeists at Oxford University.
“But, whilst it is a fantastic modern satire on race and liberalism, it really doesn’t have an awful lot to say about clowntergeists.
“Whereas, of course, Clowntergeist tackles the theme of clowntergeists head on which is, I think, incredibly bold and brave.”
Released in 1917, Clowntergeist was instantly hailed as a classic by those who saw it, with many declaring Eric Corbin’s portrayal of the titular creature to be the definitive portrayal of a clowntergeist in film.
For it to be forgotten so quickly will surely come to be seen as a tragedy.
The only published best-of-decade list to include Clowntergeist was the BFI’s Sight and Sound list which included Clowntergeist in third place, just behind American Pie 2 and The Greatest Showman.
