Producers have confirmed that they don’t expect The Mandalorian season 2 production to be delayed by the ongoing Covid-19 crisis as it’s filmed is filmed a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.
“Season 2 will go ahead as planned,” confirmed creator Jon Favreau.
“Like all Star Wars productions, it is filmed a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away and as such, should be largely protected from the current problems with coronavirus.”
Favreau went on to explain the logistics of filming a major television production a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.
“Well, it’s certainly not easy, and there is a lot of trust involved.
“Because it happens a long time ago, it has, in effect, already happened. So, I have to trust that the crew and cast have done their jobs well, because it’s not like I can just pop in a time machine and travel back to a long time ago.
“And, even if I could go back in time, we don’t have the technology to travel to a galaxy far, far away anyway.
“So, yes, there’s a lot of trust.”
However, despite the difficulties, the decision to film a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away has proved helpful in the current situation.
“Well, I don’t think anyone ever considered this situation would arise, but it means that the set is completely safe from coronavirus and therefore filming on The Mandalorian season 2 will go ahead as planned.”
However, it is expected that the much anticipated new season of Star Trek: Discovery will face delay.
“I would have thought so,” said Favreau.
“I think it’s filmed in Toronto. Shame really, if they’d chosen to film it 900 years in the future, when it’s set, they’d be alright.
“Sometimes cost-cutting really doesn’t pay off.”
