The new show from the creators of Dark will continue with the themes of multiple time periods by releasing simultaneously in 1921, 1971, and late 2021.
“What many people don’t realise is that the scenes in Dark that took place in the past and future were actually filmed in the past or future,” explained creator Jantje Friese.
“Using proprietary tech we developed for the show, we’d travel back to, say, 1953, meet up with the cast, listen to a little early rock and roll and then film all the scenes. It’s what gave the show it’s convincing fidelity.”
It is by using that same technology that they will be able to release the new series – 1899 – simultaneously at different points during the past – the first series in 1981 and the second in 2001.
“The idea is that by the time we release the new, and final, series later this year, people will already have seen the previous two series in the past even though it hadn’t been created at the time they were watching them.
“So, as it will be released simultaneously in the past, even though you have no memory of watching it now, when you sit down to watch it when it was released, you will immediately remember having watched the previous series in 1981 and 2001.
“Unless, of course, you were watching Dallas or CSI when it was on, in which case, you will probably be able to find the old VHS box-sets in second-hand shops.
“We would re-release the series on DVD in advance, but as they haven’t been completed yet, that is impossible.”
The new show will feature several familiar faces from Dark, alongside Noah Wyle, Kelsey Grammer, Stephanie Powers and the guy who played Bo Luke in Dukes of Hazard.

A new high budget, prestige costume drama that your Mum will want to watch is probably starting on Sunday evening. I mean, I haven’t checked or anything but it’s the sort of thing that usually happens at this time of year.
The show, probably starting Rebecca Front or David Tennant and some token Hollywood star on their uppers, is likely to feature an inordinate amount of mooning about in bonnets at a National Trust property in Devon and an old woman being caustic and waspish.
It is expected that everyone’s mum will make a big do of wanting to watch the new show, claiming that ‘we should watch something I want to watch, for a change,’ before falling asleep before the titles have even finished.
Critics are already hailing the programme ‘a sumptuous masterpiece,’ but then they get paid to watch it.
The show, called something like The Abbey of my Sister, will begin this Sunday at 9pm and go on for the rest of your life.
