The new season of Narcos will bring the story up-to-date with a story based around the illicit toilet roll and hand sanitizer trade out of South America.
A recent phenomenon, the drug cartels of Mexico made the decision to focus on supplying toilet rolls and hand sanitizer into Great Britain when it became apparent quite how much they were worth to people.
“It’s a fascinating story,” explained writer Chris Brancato.
“Everyone in Britain went crazy one weekend and bought all the toilet rolls and hand sanitizer in the country, which led to major national shortages.
“So, the drug guys in Mexico found out about this and realised that there was millions to be made supplying illegal sanitizer and toilet rolls into the country.
“They set up factories dedicated to making toilet roll out of dried mud and leaves and hand sanitizer from thick water.
“A supply network was created that saw the sanitizer and toilet rolls shipped across the Atlantic onto the shores of North Africa and then flown into North Wales before being distributed at vastly inflated prices through a series of small corner shops and car boot sales.”
However, with the illegal trade came violence and casualty.
“There was one guy who passed out after being trapped under a collapsed pile of poorly made toilet roll and another who stubbed is toe on a crate of fake hand sanitizer.
“It was pretty brutal.”
Narcos will focus on the brave policemen on both sides of the Atlantic who are doing everything they can to stop to the trade.
“Impressive guys, they’re putting everything on the line to prevent Britain falling victim to the nightmare of fake, illegal toilet rolls and hand sanitizer.”
However, with the shelves still clear of both toilet roll and hand sanitizer and People forced to rely on old socks and bleach, it seems that it is only a matter of time before the illicit trade really takes hold.
A further season of Narcos seems inevitable.
