A new documentary has revealed the huge variety of people who have cameoed in Star Wars as a stormtrooper.
The public first became aware of celebrity Star Wars cameos when Ed Sheeran announced he had played a stormtrooper in The Force Awakens in a failed attempt to appear interesting.
“I was unhappy with Saddam Hussain being a stormtrooper,” explained George Lucas as he reminisced about the cameos in The Phantom Menace.
“But it was part of a back-channel agreement between our government and the Iraqis to secure peace in the region. Saddam wanted a Playstation 2 and to have a part in Star Wars.
“I guess George Bush figured it was worth it.”
Jackie from the cigarette counter in Asda is remembered far more fondly.
“Ah, Jackie was lovely,” recalled JJ Abrams.
“I’d pop each morning in to pick up sixty Regal for Daisy and Mark Hammill’s pornography and Jackie was always friendly and welcoming and became such a part of my day that I asked if she’d like to be a stormtrooper.
Richard III was possibly the strangest cameo.
“Well, it was a descendent of the King who asked,” said Last Jedi director Rian Johnson.
“Who were we to turn down a King, so we had a stormtrooper costume propped up to look as if it were sitting on a bench and simply tipped the King’s bones into the costume, making us the only science-fiction film to feature a medieval King.
Other Star Wars stormtrooper cameos include Noam Chomsky, the last living white rhino, and a man called Jeff who was previously best known for playing a stormtrooper in a different Star Wars film.
