New Crown season sees Charles and Edward fight crime out of the toughest precinct in New York

Fans of The Crown are in for a surprise as plans for Season 4 are revealed.

Set mainly in New York, it will see Princes Charles and Edward team up as no-nonsense cops to fight crime out of the toughest precinct in the city.

“I think that after three seasons set mainly around Buckingham Palace and England, it was time to change things up a little,” explained creator Peter Morgan.

“New York cops seemed the sensible way to go.”

Disillusioned with Royal life, brothers Charles and Edward head to early-eighties New York to join the police department and find themselves working out of the Bronx – the toughest precinct in New York.

Charles grows a moustache and becomes a maverick cop with a drink-problem and several ex-wives – he’ll do anything to get the job done.

Edward is a strictly by-the-book officer who frowns on his brother’s wild ways.

“It’s that conflict that makes the Princes’ partnership as officers so interesting.

“In one episode, Charles is about to gun down a drug dealing pimp gang leader, but Edward stops him, firm in his belief that they need to bring in the perp by the book.”

The season will take on a traditional formula of a different case each week, but story arcs such as Charles’ drink and drug problems and Edward coming to terms with his homosexuality will run across the whole season.

Whilst it will focus mainly on their time as police officers, the season’s final episode will see the brothers leave the force, reinvent themselves as Charles and Eddy and have a worldwide hit with Would I Lie To You before returning to London to resume their royal duties.

Rumours that Season 5 will feature Princess Margaret becoming a sexy space-pirate in the far-off galaxy of Rigor-7 are, as yet, unconfirmed.
