New Oppenheimer TV spin-off sees ‘Oppie’ travelling America helping people with physics

Following the huge success of Oppenheimer, a new TV spin-off has been announced that will see the physicist travel America helping people with physics problems.

“Oppie is a great character, and people have really taken him to their hearts,” explained Stewart James who will be the showrunner on the new series.

“So, we thought it might be fun to explore what that character might have done after inventing the atom bomb.

“Now, we’re aware that it’s ancient history and that no one will ever really know what happened to Oppenheimer after the incidents in the film. Some suggest he went on to invent Pac-Man but I like to think that he was a kindly man who spent the rest of his life helping ordinary Americans with physics problems.”

The show will take inspiration from Bill Bixby’s Incredible Hulk. Oppenheimer is a drifter, unwilling to stay in one place for too long. He arrives in a small town, finds that the locals are having some troubles building a bridge, or are trying to ascertain the power of a vehicle needed to pull a particular load, or are building a really, really powerful explosive device. Oppenheimer then helps them and moves on to the next town.

“It’s a great pitch. Throw in some nudity and swearing and we’re confident that HBO will pick it up,” continued James.

Cillian Murphy has turned down the opportunity to reprise his role of Oppenheimer, and talks are currently under way with Christopher Biggins, 50 Cent or David Hasselhof to replace him.
