Oppenheimer sequel to focus on his time creating Pac-Man

Following the astonishing success of Oppenheimer, a sequel is currently in development that will focus on the controversial physicist’s time in Japan in the 1970s developing Pac-Man.

“There is a sense that once he am become death, destroyer of worlds, then that is the end of the story,” explained director Christopher Nolan, without using any CGI.

“But he actually became really interested in video games and, after changing his name to Toru Iwatani and moving Japan, he invented Pac-Man.”

The sequel, will focus on Oppenheimer’s burgeoning interest in video games, particularly Space Invaders.

“He was fascinated by Space Invaders. He spent a lot of time playing it and actually reached the final stages of the 1980 World Space Invader Championship.”

After becoming an elite-level Space Invaders player, Oppenheimer’s interest moved to designing his own video games, but at that time there just wasn’t the industry in America. So, he decided to move to Japan and be at the heart of video game creativity.

“He really threw himself into the business. Naturally, he changed his name because the name ‘Oppenheimer’ had acquired a poor reputation in the country following earlier events. Then, as Toru Iwatani, he started work on Pac-Man, basing the character on his old lover Jean and the ghosts on the members of the board who stripped him of is Q clearance.

“It’s a fascinating story that not many people know and I’m glad I’ll get the chance to tell it in this sequel.”

The sequel will see Cillian Murphy return as Oppenheimer and feature Meryl Streep as Pac-Man and Christian Bale as a Space Invader.
