Further details have emerged about the recently announced Cliffhanger sequel including the shocking revelation that the mountain is the Sylvester Stallone character’s father.
“We needed to build on the extraordinary story told in the first film,” explained producer Stewart James.
“We needed to take what made that first film so powerful, and build on it, and what better way then with the revelation that the mountain, that became Gabe’s – Sly’s character –that became his nemesis in the first film, who he battled against so bravely, is actually his father.”
The film will begin with Gabe receiving information that the mystery of his father can only be solved back in the Canadian Rockies. He travels there, believing that his father must have died up on the mountain. After a series of stunning action sequences of Gabe nearly falling off various cliffs but managing not to, he finds himself facing the peak of the mountain against which he battled in the first film and impotently shouts “You killed my father.”
At which point, a face forms out of the rock on the mountain and booms “No Gabe, I AM your father.”
“Yes, it’s a bit Empire Strikes back, I can see that,” continued Stewart.
“But it’s also so different. I mean, Darth Vader was Sith lord from thousands of years ago, in space. This mountain is a mountain, it’s a completely different thing.”
Intriguingly, it looks like the Cliffhanger sequel is not the only film taking a leaf from the classic Star Wars sequel in the coming years as rumours are emerging that the final film in the Fast & Furious sequel will contain the stunning revelation that Dominic Toretto’s father is actually his car!
