Oscars Best Actress Replay Scheduled For March 31st

The Academy has finally announced a date for the replay of its Best Actress award.

A week on from the controversial Best Actress contest that ended in a tie between Emma Stone and Lily Gladstone, the academy have confirmed that the replay will take place on March 31st, Easter Sunday.

“It’s a bit annoying,” said Emma Stone

“I’d have been wanting to have a nice lamb lunch and then watch the Bond film with an Easter egg. I’ve got a Yorkie one that I’d been really looking forward to. Now the Academy have thrown up this new award replay.”

Lily Gladstone agreed

“Yes, what Emma said, except I’ve got a Wispa egg.”

An Oscars replay occurs when two or more nominees find themselves locked in a tie on the night. In the past, the competition would have gone to extra-time or possibly even penalties, like in 1972, when Ellen Burstyn and Clovis Leachman couldn’t be separated then a set of goalposts were brought on stage and Leachman finally won after Burstyn put her sixth shot wide.

However, in 2008, the Oscar ceremony was deemed to be running too long, and so the controversial replay rule was brought in.

This will be the first replay since 2017 when an incorrect announcement decision saw La La Land incorrectly announced as winners. A replay saw the plucky underdog Moonlight triumph in extra time.
