A new sequel to 1968 classic Night of the Living Dead has been announced, and, as it will be based on a script written by the original producers in the 1970s, it will feature a lot of disco dancing.
Set in New York in 1976, the film will start with the terrifying phrase – ‘It has been established that, in discos all around the city, persons who have recently died have been returning to life, disco dancing, and committing acts of murder.’
“I’ll be honest, I thought there was a bit too much disco dancing on the page,” said producer Judith Jones.
“Disco dancing zombies, disco dancing innocent victims, disco dancing soldiers. I mean, I know it’s the 1970s, but come on, that is a lot of disco dancing.”
“But, you know, we wanted to go with the original script and the original intention and now, seeing it up on screen, it’s fine. The disco dancing just really fits.”
The film will tell the story of a small band of living disco-dancers and their DJ battling through hordes of undead disco dancers to a disco on the 42nd floor of a building where they’ll be safe.
It is thought that if the film is a success, producers will look to make another sequel from a recently discovered script set in the eighties that features really quite a lot of breakdancing.
