A trailer for the new live-action version of Dumbo has showcased the apparatus that allows the young elephant to attach a machine gun to its trunk and machetes to either tusk.
Sporting sunglasses, Dumbo is seen spitting out a cigarette and opening fire with the machine gun in what is increasingly looking like a divisive re-imagining of the Disney classic from Tim Burton.
“Obviously, having a baby elephant wield an automatic weapon with credibility was always going to be a challenge,” said Dumbo producer Brad Walters.
“But it needed to work or the brutal revenge sequence just would look ridiculous.”
In the original cartoon, when Dumbo’s mother is locked in a cage, Dumbo works hard in the circus to see her freed.
However, in an effort to update the story for a modern audience, the new version will see Dumbo respond to his mother being locked in a cage by going on a bloody, murderous spree of death and revenge against those who have wronged him.
The other elephants who tormented him will be mown down in a hail of gunfire and the elephant keeper and circus ringmaster who locked up his mother are slashed to death with machetes attached to Dumbo’s tusks.
“I think the trailer really shows how the new story will work, and I hope Dumbo fans of all ages are as psyched as we are about the new picture,” said Walters, proudly.
Dumbo: Massacre of the Judged will be released in late 2019.
