New Jaws sequel sees Jaws retiring and setting up a frozen yogurt shop

A new Jaws sequel has been announced that will see an older, more thoughtful Jaws retire and set up a frozen yogurt stand on a beach in Amity.

“Yes, Jaws is coming back,” said a Stewart James, director of the new film.

“But he’s coming back with a twist – in a gentle comedy about a shark approaching later life.”

He explained how the unusual premise for the new Jaws sequel came about.

“We wondered – how would Jaws approach his old age, his retirement? Our first idea would be that he’d go and eat a bunch of kids. But then we were like – ‘would he?’ Maybe he wants to go and eat a bunch of kids but he’s tired, his flipper hurts a lot of the time and he can’t see so well.

“So, we got into thinking about how, as you get older, you start to feel regretful, you look back on your life and reflect.

“Maybe Jaws does that and he feels bad about eating all those kids, maybe he wants to stop eating all the kids, move on from eating kids, and that’s why he sets up his new frozen yogurt stand and becomes part of the community on Amity Island.”

Surprisingly, the film will not feature the franchise’s signature death and mayhem.

“No, this is about Jaws learning to live and love again. He befriends the local children, teaches them to surf, helps out with local charity drives and even starts a tentative relationship with a widowed librarian.

“He’s got older, more sensible. He just wants a quiet life. He wants to leave his wild life behind – he’s the Eric Clapton of killer sharks.”

Jaws: Keepin’ Cool will be released in 2022, seven years after Jaws 19 made its famous debut in Hill Valley.
