A newly announced Gran Turismo film will be deceptively simple, with a plot consisting mainly of a man driving a car too fast, spinning off at a corner, swearing and trying it again.
“We’re really capturing the essence of what has been a classic PlayStation game for some 25 years now,” explained producer Stewart James.
“The reason the game has been so enduringly popular is it has stuck to that core, gameplay loop – spinning off at the corner, swearing, and doing it again.”
The film will, of course, feature some exposition of exactly why the man keeps repeatedly spinning off at a corner, swearing and doing it again.
“Aliens, probably,” continued Mr James.
“Aliens have invaded, are chasing the man and he spins off at a corner and gets stuck in some sort of alien time loop that means he keeps spinning off at the corner, swearing and trying it again.”
Gran Turismo fans were excited at the prospect of a film adaptation of their favourite game.
“I will definitely go and see it,” said Kelly Grace.
“I just hope they stick to the spirit of Gran Turismo, which is spinning off at a corner, swearing, and doing it again. I’d hate it if the cars just went round the corner really easily and carried on, that just wouldn’t be the Gran Turismo I know.”
Mr James is confident that the film will match fans’ expectations, and even has plans for a sequel.
“Gran Turismo 2? Yeah, we’re thinking about that. We’ll build on the first film by making it about a man spinning off at a corner, swearing, then trying again. It’ll just be a slightly different corner.”
