Natalie Portman growing 45 feet taller for Tim Burton’s new Attack of the 50 Foot Woman

Natalie Portman is preparing for her role in the new upcoming remake of the classic Attack of the 50 Foot Woman by growing 45 feet taller.

With director Tim Burton determined to use as little CGI as possible for the film, Portman will need to be 50 feet tall for the climactic scenes of her character’s titular attack.

“People see a CGI 50-foot-tall woman and go – ‘whatever, it’s a special effect.’ People see a real 50-foot-tall woman and they’re going to go – ‘yes, that’s a 50-foot-tall woman. I have empathy for her. I care about her,” he explained.

“Natalie understood that from the off and is committed to growing ten times as tall as she is now to achieve that verisimilitude.”

The scenes in which Portman’s character is normal height have already been filmed and now there is a break of some six months in production whilst Portman achieves the correct height.

“You know, people talk about De Niro gaining pounds for Raging Bull, or Chris Bale dropping all that weight for The Machinist, but this is the first time that an actor has gained height for a role. It shows real dedication to the craft and I hope the Academy remember the extraordinary work she’s done for Attack of the 50 Foot Woman when the Oscars come round,” continued Burton.

He went on to explain the tough regime Portman is putting herself through.

“She wakes up, puts on some really heavy shoes and then hangs from a doorway for seven hours. Seven hours!  A lot of actors wouldn’t put themselves through this, but Nat is something special.”

It is understood that, should Portman fail to grow the required 45 feet taller, Burton will instead seek to reduce the size of all her co-stars to a few inches high and film on small, model sets.

“It’s a back-up plan, we’ll do it mainly through diet. Shouldn’t be needed though. Nat is a pro.”
