As it’s Friday, it is time for the weekly release of a new Nicolas Cage film and this week’s film – Haze of Magic – sees Nic as an alcoholic wizard who must save the world from evil sentient trees.
“I was drawn to the role of a psychic mechanic because I drive a car and I- Oh, wait, hang on. The psychic mechanic guy is next week’s film. This is the wizard guy, isn’t it? Sorry about that,” said an understandably confused Cage.
“I was drawn to the role of an alcoholic wizard because I loved the dichotomy of great power brought low by a very human frailty and how that balance of personality would be tested by the very real threat of trees coming to life and attacking humanity.
“Also, it was Sunday and I was pretty bored because I hadn’t made a film since last Wednesday.”
The new film continues the astonishing run of one film a week that Cage began early last September with Roaring Catastrophe, Roaring Catastrophe II: Lion Down the following week, and then Roaring Catastrophe III: Pride of the Mane a week later.
“I just like to keep the momentum up,” said Cage.
“It’s easy to make a picture and then get sucked into promotion work, then a holiday, then spending time with your family and before you know it it’s been nearly a month since you last make a film.
“Which is just lazy.”
Haze of Magic will release today and then next week is the aforementioned Visions of Carburettor. The following week is a sequel – Con Air 2: Submarine of Justice, and then after that is The Priest’s Overbite.
