Minecraft producers Mojang have confirmed that they will be introducing a skin pack based on classic UK Home Secretaries.
From June, players will be able to play as David Blunkett, Michael Howard or Amber Rudd.
“Obviously, these aren’t targeted at our core youth demographic,” explained Mojang representative Stewart James.
“But, as our players get older, they want their avatar in Minecraft to be a little more serious, a little more grown-up.
“Now, they’ll be able to play as, for example, Leon Brittan. He’ll have a nice grey suit and sensible haircut and instead of a grey inventory, they will have a red box that contains all their items.”
There will be an option to pay a little extra for the deluxe Home Secretary skin pack which will include William Petty, 2nd Earl of Shelburne, the Whig who became the first every Home Secretary in 1782.
Fans were broadly welcoming of the pack, but there was some disappointment at omissions.
“It’s great that we can finally play as Home Secretaries in Minecraft,” said Kelly Grace, an assassin from Chelmsford, Essex, who’s been playing Minecraft since it was first released.
“But, I find it bizarre that there’s no Sir Robert Peel, for example. I mean, the man created the police force for heaven sake. No Herbert Morrison who was Home Secretary throughout the second World War. So, some opportunities missed, I’d say.”
The Home Secretary pack follows on from other Minecraft skins for adults such as the ‘Prog Rock Bassists’ pack, the ‘IT Department’ pack, and the controversial ‘80s Electric Blue’ pack.
