Producers have revealed that there is still a trilogy of new Star Wars films in development, and they’re going to be set in the sixties.
“The Jedi sensibilities of oneness with the universe and balance are very similar to the peace and love attitudes of 60s hippies, so it seems an obvious time frame for some new Star Wars stories,” explained producer Stewart James.
“We’ll have the Jedi as a groovy 60s psychedelic band with long hair and big flares, and they drive about San Francisco in a battered old Volkswagen van solving crimes and helping people.
“The Empire are still there in the form of the repressive Nixon government, who are trying to hunt down the Jedi and make them wear suits and get proper jobs.”
The new films will, for the first time, not feature the John Williams orchestral soundtrack.
“I think that if you’re going to set the films in the sixties, then having an orchestral film score is going to come off a bit square, so instead we’ll have swinging soundtrack of sixties hits by Simon & Garfunkel, Bob Dylan, and the Mamas & the Papas.”
Fans were unsure about the new plans.
“It’s good that we’re finally moving on from a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away,” said Kelly Grace, a lifelong Star Wars fan.
“But, I’ve got to be honest, I was hoping they’d set it in Edwardian England because I love to see people wearing big hats. Whatever though, I’m fine with the sixties.”
Star Wars: It’s a Gas, Man is expected to be the first film in the new trilogy and filming and release dates have yet to be confirmed.
