Tony Soprano, Benjamin Disraeli, Mick Hucknall: The surprise new characters in Mario Kart World

One of the things that definitely makes Mario Kart World worth 75 actual pounds is the huge number of characters included. So many, in fact, that Nintendo have included some intriguing characters who aren’t necessarily associated with the Mario franchise.

Tony Soprano is the fictional mob-boss played by James Gandolfini in the hit 2000’s show The Sopranos. His Kart is a modified Chevy Suburban and has a special power of calling his cousin Christopher to come out and ‘whack’ an opponent, putting them out of the game for good.

Benjamin Disraeli was a British Prime Minister in the late 1800s. His Kart is a pony and trap that is, technically, driven not by Disraeli, but his butler. His special power is acquiring the Suez Canal, which transforms his cart into a boat and lets him take a shortcut to another part of the course.

Lead singer of the blue-eyed soul group Simply Red, Mick Hucknall has a Limousine Kart full of sexy ladies and a special power called ‘Do the Right Thing’ which can only be used in the middle of the night, when the time is right, sexily right, and when invoked will mean that the player does the right thing for 5 seconds.

In order to really feel like the £75 is justified, which it definitely, definitely is, these new characters are only the start. 

Alongside Mario, Wario, Tony Soprano, Benjamin Disraeli, and Mick Hucknall is Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice, Willis from Diff’rent Stokes, Al Gore, Bananarama, Henry IV Part One, and a loudmouth bloke called Jeff from the down the pub.
