‘Final Destination: Bloodlines’ opening disaster is America being taken over by an incompetent dictator

Further details have emerged of the hugely anticipated Final Destination: Bloodlines, including the nature of the disaster that sets off the plot.

Each film begins with the premonition of a disaster that sees a handful of characters escape. Following the original’s plane crash and subsequent films’ freeway accident, and bridge collapse, the disaster that kicks off the new film will be America being taken over by an incompetent dictator.

The film begins with the main character about to go to the shops, but as she’s leaving her house she has a vision of the country being taken over by an incompetent dictator and a cabal of goons who systematically dismantle the country’s democratic institutions, crash the stock market, and deport thousands of Americans because of the colour of their skin.

After the vision, she decides to stay home.

“We thought of the worst thing that could happen to an American,” explained director Adam Stein, “worse even than that rollercoaster crash which was, let’s be honest, absolutely terrifying. 

“We thought maybe a giant earthquake, or a mega-storm, or a new set of Star Wars prequels, but then we figured the worst, most terrifying disaster would be the country being taken over by a dictator who is not only a psychopath, but also really, really stupid. So, he ruins the country with a combination of cruelty and incompetence. Scary, right?”

Final Destination: Bloodlines will play out as the other films did, with no-one, ultimately, being able to escape the consequences of the disaster.
