Following the success of Mamma Mia 2: Here We Go Again, the third instalment in the franchise has already been greenlit.
However, with the first two films using many of the most popular ABBA songs, producers have hit on an ingenious plan to make sure the new instalment has plenty of feel-good pop hits.
“We’re going to use Bucks Fizz songs,” said director Ol Parker.
“Half ABBA, half Bucks Fizz. It’ll be brilliant.”
Mr Parker is confident no-one will notice.
“Are you kidding? Everyone who comes to see Mamma Mia is chock full of Prosecco and just wants to have a bit of a singalong before dozing off in their seat in a drunken stupor.
“You think anyone cares if it’s Making Your Mind Up or Waterloo?”
“Land of Make Believe, Camera Never Lies, that one that goes ‘Mumble Sarah’ – we’ll put them all in the second half before a big finish with Winner Takes It All.
“Everyone stumbles out, they’ve had a great time, maybe someone has a vague memory that someone should have whipped off the girls’ skirts during the Making Your Mind Up bit, but basically, we’re all good.”
Mr Parker was trying not to think about what would be needed if Mamma Mia 3 is a success and Mamma Mia 4 happens.
“Oh, God knows, Brotherhood of Man? The Goombay Dance Band? The Barron Knights? Let’s cross that bridge when we come to it.”
