The upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder will see the debut of Thor’s mighty spanner and Thor’s mighty wrench.
Thor has been firmly established within the Avengers universe as a man with a big hammer, however as the new phase of Marvel films arrive, his character will be expanded to a man who also has a big spanner and a big wrench.
“We’ve seen Thor’s impressive ability with his mighty hammer,” said Marvel boss Kevin Feige.
“But with Love and Thunder, we’re going to see something new. Early in the film, he’ll come up against an ancient, mystical and mighty nut and bolt. Now, you can’t just hit that with a hammer – even if you are a mighty Norse God! – it’ll likely damage the thread and then you’ll never get it undone.
“So, instead, Thor heads home, rummages in his garage until he finds his toolbox and then pulls out his mighty spanner!
“And also, his mighty wrench, because sometimes the nut and the bolt are really, really tight, particularly if they’re old, and you’ll need to use the wrench to really grip the bolt head and then work at the nut with the spanner.
“With Thor’s mighty spanner, and Thor’s mighty wrench, he’s able to undo the mighty nut and bolt and go on and defeat the fire goblins from Mars, or whatever.”
Fans were excited.
“Brilliant news,” tweeted @Lokispants.
“I love Thor, but it’s been a bit unrealistic that the only tool he’s got is a hammer. He’s a Norse god! Of course, he’ll have a really impressive toolbox with mighty spanners and mighty wrenches and a mighty screwdriver with mighty interchangeable heads and everything.”
There was some concern that the debut of both the mighty spanner and mighty wrench would cause confusion in the US where the words ‘spanner’ and ‘wrench’ are often used interchangeably.
“Yes, I know that now,” said Feige.
“And I kind of wish I’d googled that before I started but, if you think about it, he’s a Norse God, so that’s Norway, so that’s Europe, where a spanner is a spanner and a wrench is a wrench.
“So that’s fine.”
Whilst Feige was happy to confirm that Love and Thunder would feature Thor’s mighty spanner and mighty wrench, however he refused to respond to speculation that this new phase of Marvel films would see the debut of Thor’s mighty power-tools or Thor’s mighty Black and Decker workmate.
