Joker: Folie à Deux confirmed as a Boney M jukebox musical

The highly anticipated sequel to 2019’s Joker, Joker: Folie à Deux, was confirmed as a musical last year, but further information has now emerged including the news that it will actually be a jukebox musical featuring the songs of Boney M.

Co-starring pop singer and minor aristocrat Lady Gaga, along with original star Joaquin Phoenix, the new film will feature such classic hits as Ma Baker, Sunny, and, of course, The Rivers of Babylon.

“We knew we wanted a musical, and we knew we didn’t want to write any songs,” said director Todd Phillips.

“I mean, these films are about a crisis in masculinity and writing songs isn’t very manly, right? So, we knew we needed existing songs. We thought about songs by Cliff Richard and the Shadows, Napalm Death, and The Smurfs, but eventually settled on Boney M because, you know, who doesn’t like dancing to Brown Girl in the Ring at a wedding?”

The film will begin with Joker, still sad because he can’t get a girlfriend, singing a plaintive version of Mary’s Boy Child as he murders someone. We then feel his joy as he performs Daddy Cool, after meeting Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn, as he murders someone. We see the pair of themsing an ecstatic Hooray! Hooray! It’s a Holi-Holiday as they murder someone on a trip together. Although the climax of the story is unknown, we do know that it will feature a rousing version of Rasputin performed by the entire cast, as they all murder someone.

The film, like the original, is expected to be a huge hit with people who enjoy stories about men who can’t get a girlfriend killing people ,but unlike the original, also with people who enjoy Boney M songs.
