Institute of Bombs issues new advice to cut the blue wire not the green wire

stick of dynamite with timer and wires. Cut the blue wire

The Institute of Bombs has updated its guidance on defusing bombs to advise cutting the blue wire instead of the green wire.

“Following the latest developments in bomb-knowledge, we would advise that cutting the blue wire is the safest option in most cases,” explained Dr Kelly Grace, Professor of Bombs.

“In the past, we would always suggest cutting the green wire, but the latest bomb research shows that cutting the green wire will often cause the countdown timer to run down really quickly, leading to the explosion coming slightly faster than it would do normally.”

The Institute has issued a new leaflet and urges all police officers, be they renegade cops or boy-scouts, to carry it with them at all times.

“This leaflet could be invaluable. It could save your life,” continued Professor Grace.

“Otherwise, when confronted with a bomb, you will be reliant on your partner recalling whether to cut the green wire or blue wire, and unless they have remembered our new guidance leaflet then you are going to find yourself guessing which wire to cut, which could lead to unintended consequences.”

The advice to wait before cutting the wire until the countdown timer reaches between 2 and 3 seconds remains the same, and waiting for the bomb squad to arrive is strongly discouraged in all circumstances.
