The recently announced Ferris Bueller spin-off will be based on the barbequing dad from whom Ferris steals a Pepsi as he runs through back gardens to get home.

“I was always fascinated by that guy,” explained producer Jon Hurwitz.

“Who was he? Why was he barbequing on a weekday? Who were the children in his garden? Were they his? Had he kidnapped them? Why was he drinking Pepsi, not Coke? There are so many questions surrounding him.

“You know he’s not even listed on IMDB? What are they trying to hide? No, this guy has a story and we’re going to tell it.”

The film will tell the story of the barbequing dad from childhood up to the moment when Ferris steals his Pepsi.

“We’re still working through the plot but, broadly, we’ll see how he’s born to a German Baron in a brothel in Weimar Germany. He has an unconventional, but loving childhood with all the prostitutes acting as mothers. At the age of 15 he’s joined the German army, but is actually spying for the allies. After the war, for his service, he is invited to live in America by President Roosevelt. He is caught up in the McCarthy witch-hunts but refuses to name names. He plays bass for the Byrds and then joins Atari, where he creates Pitfall. On the day Ferris steals his Pepsi, he’s just learnt that the company has collapsed and he’s out of work.

“So, I hope Ferris feels pretty bad about the whole affair.”

Should the film prove successful, there are further spin-offs in the works that will focus on the meeting Ferris’s Dad had at the restaurant, the girl in the arcade who, for some reason, dresses like Ferris, and the men’s room attendant who is probably some sort of superhero.
