HBO have announced that they are developing a new Hellraiser TV series, and that the focus will be very much on Pinhead and his new life as a tough New York PI.
“Pinhead isn’t the bad guy in those films. It’s Frank, it’s Julia, they’re the bad guys,” explained producer Stewart James.
“So, it’s not that much of a stretch to say that, moving on from the events of the films, Pinhead gets a bit bored of kicking round hell showing such sights to people and decides that he wants open up a New York Private Investigations company.
“I mean, he’s got the trench coat, the gravelly voice. Apart from trouble finding a well-fitting hat because of the pins, he’s pretty much got the whole look.”
The show will feature Pinhead investigating a new case each week. Skinless Julia will feature as his long-suffering, hard-bitten secretary and his trusty sidekick is Rex, a cute little hound of hell who follows him everywhere.
The first episode will show Pinhead emerging for hell into New York to track down some con-men who have been forging Lament Configuration puzzle boxes to sell on eBay.
After successfully bringing them to justice, he decides to stay on and open up an office.
“It was tricky, you can’t have a weekly show with Pinhead just being all doomy in hell, pulling people’s faces off and whatnot,” continued James.
“So, we needed a new job for him – computer programmer, florist, blogger – we kicked around several ideas before settling on private investigator and that just works great. He’s Columbo with pins in his face.”
It is thought that should the new Hellraiser TV series prove successful, HBO may look to develop further shows with Michael Myers and Jason Vorhees as bickering, mismatched cops, Freddie Krueger as a shady lawyer and Leatherface as a 50s advertising executive.
