It has emerged that George Lucas advised Game of Thrones producers to abandon Season 8 and simply re-release season one with some shoddy CGI inserted.
The legendary creator of Star Wars Episode One: The Phantom Menace and some other films visited the Game of Thrones set during the filming of the season premiere.
“George? He was terrific. He even directed a scene,” said showrunner David Benioff.
“I mean, we had to cut it, there just wasn’t the time to introduce a comedy alien who farts and speaks in a cod-Jamaican accent.”
Benioff went on to describe the advice Lucas gave him.
“Yeah, he gave us some pretty interesting advice,” he laughed.
“He said that people loved the first season, so we should just claim that we wanted to give a whole new generation of fans a chance to experience it, insert some ropey CGI into the background of quieter scenes, re-release it and then go to sleep every night on a giant pile of money.
“I can’t deny it was a tempting idea, but we wanted to conclude the story we’d sent ten years working on.”
Benioff smiled knowingly.
“After all, fans would feel pretty cheated if they didn’t get to see Tyrion develop superpowers and put a stop to the alien invasion of Westeros in that final episode.”
